In CDT we are making whatever we want as long as it's possible to do in four hours, I think that this is a very good idea because we get to experiment, make mistakes and learn how to fix them. I have chosen to do a small piggy bank keyring (ex. to keep your lunch money in) or a large one, depending on how much time I have. I have chosen to do this because I would like to learn how to work with wood better and make things hollow. We have been told to keep asking ourselves 'but WHY?' to explain to ourselves the purpose of us doing this project. We also need to make it look aesthetic so we don't end up with a bundle of wood at the end. I, personally think that my project will go very well and I will work hard to get what i have in mind.

Hi Robyn. I like this paragraph - it is very clear and reflects well on what we did in class. Firstly I'd like to know why you want to make a small key ring and not something else. Secondly, I have a few questions to get you going:
  • If the piggybank has to be very small it will be quite difficult. You might have to be prepared to make it a bit bigger than wanted to cope with the skill required to make it.
  • I would like to see a wide range of ideas. This is a really creative project and could be solved in loads of different ways. You can use plastic and metal as well in the workshop.
I would maybe like to use plastic in my piggy bank to make it look like this. pid_4803-Amish-Wooden-Piggy-Bank-10.jpg
I think this will be more acheivable because its two flat shapes rather than one hollow one.
this also to me looks aesthetic because you can see through it.
I think that it would be easier to use mdf instead of wood but i would like to see what you think will look better, or be easier.
i was wondering what i could put between the two pieces of wood but i would like a slot big enough to fit a note in it, even if its folded. Would a cork be good to get the money out of it, or should i use something else?

It is good to see the start of your project. Get working hard and get this page up to scratch!

WEEK 1: This week we were in the workshop for the first time on this project. I was working with Sarene to start making our piggy bank. We started getting ready by sticking the pieces of wood together and using a clamp to hold it for this week. I enjoyed this because we learnt how to use a clamp properly and it was getting ready for making the piggy bank next week. I also enjoyed it because we were in the workshop rather than planning it out for another week to wait before we could start to make it (its not that I don't like planning, I just prefer working.)

WEEK 2: This week we started to design our piggy banks properly by outlining our drawings onto the wood and next week i plan to cut one of them out and make it perfect, then i will trace it onto the design

WEEK 3: This week I started cutting the wood into a pig shape and i got about halfway through the pig, once i've done this perfect and up to shape, i will trace it onto the second piece of wood and cut that out and make it perfect. I hope this all goes to plan.
